*Mars Home for Youth* The Mars home Is a non-profit home where children aged 9-17 go to stay when they have been abused at home and have no where else to go and they need intensive in-home care due to being troubled, abused, abusers or any other reason a court might require them to come. Many stay for longer periods than one year but most stay around that length of time -- some stay indefinitely. At any point in time they house approximately 65 kids, but they turn over & during holiday periods they are swamped. They have a mix of girls and boys and racial diversity. Why am I Telling you This? They are in need of twin size quilts for the kids. We have a limited amount of donated fabric (from P&B) to work with. So, if you have some fabric in you stash that you'd like to donate to the cause we will gladly accept it, along with other supplies needed to complete a quilt. Also, if you have any orphan blocks or tops we can turn them into quilts for the kids. Quilter's Nook Studio will be making up kits that can be worked on here in the shop - we are designating the third Saturday of the month as Mars Home Quilting Saturdays - or checked out to be worked on at home. Anyone wanting to work on these quilts on the third Saturday can arrive anytime after 12pm and work as long as they'd like until 4pm. There will not be any Open Sew charge for participants. (regular Open Sew charge is $6 for the noon - 4pm session) |
